Technology Overview
Introducing FCI's next-generation clean energy technologies leading the future energy transition.
Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) Technology Overview
SOFC is a power generation system that uses a solid oxide electrolyte to directly convert the chemical energy of fuels-such as hydrogen and natural gas-into electricity and heat, offering the highest efficiency among fuel cell technologies.
  • Operating Principle: Oxygen ions are generated at the cathode and pass through the solid electrolyte, where they react with hydrogen at the anode, producing water and electricity.
  • Operating Temperature: SOFC typically operates at high temperatures ranging from 600°C to 1,000°C. (Notably, FCI’s SOFC operates at 700–750°C)
  • High Efficiency: SOFC delivers exceptionally high electrical efficiency, raging from 50% to 65%. When integrated with Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems to utilize high-temperature heat, the total system efficiency can be maximized to over 80%.
  • Fuel Flexibility: SOFC can utilize a wide range of fuels beyond hydrogen (H₂), including natural gas (CH₄), LPG, biogas, and ammonia, enguring high adaptability for diverse energy infrastructures.
  • Applications: As a high-efficiency distributed generation system, SOFC is ideal for data centers, microgrids, marine vessels, and commercial buildings.
Solid Oxide Electrolyzer (SOE) Technology Overview
SOE is an advance system that produces hydrogen and oxygen by utilizing SOFC technology in reverse.
Operating at high temperatures, it minimizes the energy required for the electrolysis process, establishing it as the moste efficient technology for hydrogen production.
  • Operating Principle: By supplying electricity to high-temperature steam (H₂O), the water electrolysis process occurs, seperating it into hydrogen (H₂) and oxygen (O₂).
  • High Efficiency: Operating at high temperatures between 700°C and 1,000°C, SOE achieves an outstanding energy efficiency of up to 95%. This is 20–30% higher than other electrolysis technologies such as Alkaline and PEM.
  • Green Hydrogen Production: When integrated with renewable energy sources like solar or wind power, SOE enables the large-scale production of green hydrogen with zero carbon emissions.
Solid Oxide Cells (SOFC, SOEC)
  • A technology that generates electricity by supplying fuel (hydrogen), or conversely produces hydrogen by supplying electricity.
  • Like a battery, it produces electricity or hydrogen through electrochemical reactions between the cathode and anode without combustion.
